Marketing Experts Debate

House of Commons – Marketing Debate

On March 27th we joined the Debating Group’s House of Commons marketing debate hosted by the CIM. The motion for debate was ‘in an increasingly customer-led world CMOs, not CFOs are the natural choice to become Chief Executive’. The Media and Marketing Debate was chaired by Greg Mulholland MP.

In the past we have seen a pattern of CEOs coming from a CFO background, but we feel that CMOs are better placed for the future. The CMO is already driving profit and needs to fully understand the customer base. With the ever changing company environment we would argue that CMOs are better placed to take on the role of CEO.

As Sarah Speake commented ‘The CMOs not the CFOs have it….’
